With the holiday season upon us, service member and Department of Defense employee celebrations often include decorations and holiday-themed parties. INFOGRAM 47-13, as of Oct. 30, outlines the applicable rules and regulations pertaining to holiday decorations, giving and receiving gifts, and conducting holiday parties.
Decorations, both in the federal workplace and in the family housing areas, may include religious themes only if the decoration is of a personal nature. All decorations must be rendered flameproof by the officer or noncommissioned officer, or civilian in charge. Live trees are prohibited.
Ornamentation will not be permitted to obstruct any exit, exit markers or stairways.
“The important of the holiday guidance is to provide us what we can and cannot do aboard Camp Pendleton, and why it is important to discuss the safety issues that can affect our holiday season,” said Lance Cpl. Krishaun Lavalais, an administration clerk with the Adjutant office.
Religious displays are allowed to be displayed on leased property on base when the display is placed by the tenant.
INFORGRAM 51-13 outlines the display of Christmas trees in the office and work spaces. Christmas trees are prohibited in the following occupancies: places of public assembly, barracks rooms, educational facilities, hotels to include transient lodging facilities, and detention and correctional facilities.
Artificial trees are allowed in the exchanges, barracks activity centers, Single Marine Program facilities, business offices, day-care, and industrial buildings.
Natural cut trees are only allowed in areas equipped with an automatic sprinkler system. Family housing allows fresh cut trees as long as specific instruction is followed during the holiday season, refer to INFOGRAM 51-13.For further restrictions on the base’s family housing area, please review the governing lease agreement.
