CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. —

Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton will host the Native American Marine Corps Veterans as they conduct the second annual Ceremonial Gourd Dance and Blessing on the 11 Area soccer field Friday.
The ceremony provides a Native American blessing for service members embarking and returning from deployments as well as for those currently serving in combat regions. It will also include traditional songs and dances by the Apache, Cheyenne, Comanche, Kiowa, Pala and Pechanga tribes.
Oceanside, Calif., resident Col. Rocky J. Chavez, USMC retired, will serve as the guest speaker for the event. Chavez has served on the Oceanside City Council as well as the acting secretary for the California Department of Veterans Affairs.
