MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. -- Since the launch of social networking sites, users have been flocking to media outlets in an attempt to stay connected with family members and friends.

The Marine and Family Program Division provided an eMARINE training course to unit Family Readiness Officers and active-duty administrative personnel at a Marine Corps Family Team Building classroom, June 7, in an effort to keep up with the social media “boom.”

The eMARINE website provides information securely to military members and those who support them.

"It's important for (FROs) to take this training course because it helps them become more efficient webpage developers," said Kristy Harris, a FRO with Combat Logistics Regiment 15.

This is how unit-specific information will be passed; there will not be anymore mass emails, Harris said.

The exclusive website was put in place to prevent operational security violations by giving Marines and their families a non-public source to communicate information and discuss Corps-specific topics.

"(eMARINE) is a tool that helps deliver information and resources to families and (military members) on a trusted site,” Harris said.

After becoming a registered user, service members may sponsor up to five family members, which would allow them access to unit- specific information.

"You'll be able to find information about unit events, workshops and training (exercises)," said Elizabeth Carty, a Marine and family program trainer with the MCFTB. "Some units even use it to post dates and times of deployments."

For additional information about programs and classes offered by MCFTB call (760) 763-1337 / 7889; for more information on eMARINE visit www.emarine.org.
