CAMP PENDLETON --
A traffic test phase for the new base hospital being constructed is scheduled to begin Thursday. The testing phase will last one to two days to provide the hospital’s construction crew a hands-on understanding of traffic impacts for upcoming road construction along Vandegrift Boulevard.
During the test phase traffic lanes will be adjusted in the morning and evening hours to ease delays for vehicles traveling on and off base. In addition, this will provide insight that will result in the safest approach to construction for workers and motorists alike.
Once the testing phase has been completed and traffic patterns determined, the actual road construction is anticipated to start late August and last for approximately three months.
The project will reconstruct the four lanes of Vandergrift Boulevard between the traffic lights of Wire Mountain Road and the Marine Corps Exchange. This will also provide an additional deceleration lane for northbound traffic to enter the hospital by the means of a new traffic light without creating congestion.
