The 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Highlanders claimed a tough 20-19 victory over the Headquarters and Battalion Spartans in the Commanding General's Cup championship game to become the undefeated champions at Paige Fieldhouse, Nov. 18. The Highlanders will go on to represent Camp Pendleton in the Best-in-the-West ame against the Marine Corps Communication Electronic School team from Marine Corps Air Ground Center Twenty-Nine Palms at Paige Fieldhouse, Dec. 6.

During the finals, the Air Force Men’s Team (5-2) proved their mettle by beating the Army Men’s (5-2) 86-78 to take first place, while the Army Women’s Team (7-0) beat the Air Force Women’s (3-4) 71-55 to bring home the gold.

The Wounded Warrior Battalion-West held a ceremony Nov. 12 to unveil a monument honoring servicemembers wounded during combat. The sculpture is based on the Operation Phantom Fury photograph 'Hell House' of then 1st Sgt. Bradley Kasal being carried out of a house by two lance corporals after a firefight where Kasal sustained injuries. "The monument is a symbol of camaraderie that's important to Marines, not only in combat but in the healing process as well, " said Robin Kelleher, president of Hope for the Warriors, which  contributed to constructing the monument.

The Marine Corps Men’s team is 1-2 and the Air Force Men’s team is 2-1 after the third day of the playoffs. The championship game will be held on Nov. 13th.

Brig. Gen. Edward Banta speaks at the opening ceremony of the Armed Forces Basketball Championship at the Paige Fieldhouse, Nov. 7. The championship consists of a men and womens team from each of the four branches. The tournament is from Nov. 7-13 and the best players from the tournament will be selected to play on the All-Armed Forces Team in December in Belgium.
