Reconnaissance Training Company Marines received an aerial view of Camp Pendleton during Special Patrol Insertion/Extraction training at San Mateo Landing Zone, April 17. The Marines, students of the Basic Reconnaissance Course, took turns being hoisted into the air by helicopter during the SPIE portion of their Helicopter Rope Suspension Training. During the course of HRST the students learn SPIE rigging, rappelling and fast rope techniques.

The San Diego Nice Guys and Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton held a ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the opening of two beach cottages at San Onofre Beach, April 17.
The cottages were dedicated in honor of Col. James Williams, an accomplished Marine pilot who served in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War, and Col. Jack Kelley who had a highly decorated career as a Marine infantry officer in Vietnam and was the commanding officer of 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment.

Congressman Jason Chaffetz, Chairman of the House Oversight Government and Reform Committee, was escorted by members of MCIWEST MCB-CAMPEN Government and External Affairs on a tour of training facilities and tenant commands aboard Camp Pendleton, April 6. The day concluded with a tour of the Infantry Immersion Trainer, a hands-on, mixed reality training facility that simulates the sights, smells, sounds and feel of village, in designated locations. The purpose of the facility is to provide a realistic environment in which to train Marines for deployment.
