Capt. David Rooks, company commander, India Company, Marine Combat Training Battalion, School of Infantry-West, strolls with his wife Melissa and his son Zachary, six, before participating in a Jane Wayne Day event at the School of Infantry here, Aug. 9. The day started off with one group breaking off to learn how to operate different weapons systems such as the M16 service rifle and the M9 service pistols using the Indoor Simulated Marksmanship Trainer. They travelled to Range 210C to conduct a live-fire shoot with the M27 Infantry Automatic Rifle. "It was a fun experience," said Kaylee Walter, whose husband serves as the executive officer for India Company, Marine Combat Training Battalion, SOI-W. "It was surprising how heavy the weapon was and how hard it was to hit the target. It really gave me a whole new understanding and appreciation as to what my husband does."
