Assistant Secretary of the Navy-Energy, Installations and Environment, Dennis McGinn, visited Camp Pendleton to view the energy projects on base and to speak about energy goals for the future Feb. 13. During his trip, McGinn visited the water reservoir known as Lake O'neill. "This area use to be the O'neill Baumgartner ranch," said John Simpson, the director of the Office of Water Resources. "Lake O'neill was dug here by them to irrigate thier crops and thier cows. So we pump the water into canals that go back into the ground and our wells pull it out to make it drinking water."
