Col Sellers graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in history and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant.  Upon completion of The Basic School and the Infantry Officer Course he was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines, Camp Pendleton, California.   He served as a rifle platoon commander, weapons platoon commander, company executive officer and assistant operations officer.


    In May of 1992 Col Sellers reported to Recruiting Station San Diego, California.  He served as the Station Operations Officer and Executive Officer.  Upon completion of this tour he attended the Army’s Armor Officer Advanced Course and Cavalry Leaders Course at Ft Knox, Kentucky.  In February of 1996 Col Sellers reported to 3d Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, Twentynine Palms, California for duty.  In May he assumed command of Company D, which he commanded until July of 1998.  In September of 1998 Col Sellers left active duty and worked as a production supervisor and maintenance manager for the Pepsi Bottling Group.


    Col Sellers returned to active duty in July of 2000 and was assigned as the Ground Liaison Officer, “Wing Grunt”, for 3d Marine Aircraft Wing, MCAS Miramar, California.  During this tour he completed the non-resident Marine Corps Command and Staff College seminar.  In June of 2002 Col Sellers returned to 3d Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion for duty as the Executive Officer, participating in Operation Iraqi Freedom I.  In June of 2004 Major Sellers was reassigned to the Operations and Training Directorate at Marine Air Ground Task Force Training Command, serving as the Current Operations Officer.


    In July of 2005 Col Sellers transferred to Camp Pendleton for duty as the Executive Officer of Weapons and Field Training Battalion, MCRD San Diego.  In June of 2008 he reported to the 1st Marine Division and trained for transition team duty.  He subsequently deployed to Iraq as the Operations and Training Officer for Regional Border Team-North, working with the Iraqi Border Patrol and Ports of Entry Directorate.


    In October of 2009 Col Sellers reported to MCB Camp Pendleton and was assigned as the Strategic Plans Officer.  In June of 2010 he assumed command of Security Battalion and duties as the Assistant Chief of Staff for Security and Emergency Services. 


  On 18 July 2011 Col Sellers reported to MAGTFTC, MCAGCC and was assigned as the Assistant Chief of Staff, G-7 Mission Assurance where he was responsible for police, fire and emergency services, safety and emergency management.  On 10 August of 2012 he was re-assigned as the Assistant Chief of Staff for Marine Corps Community Services. On 19 June 2013 he assumed command of Security and Emergency Services Battalion, MCB Camp Pendleton.


    His personal decorations include the Legion of Merit (2nd Award),  Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (2nd award), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3rd award) and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
