Sergeant Major Angelo R. Scott, USMC
Sergeant Major Angelo R. Scott enlisted in the Marine Corps on 9 April, 1985 and attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, SC.
Upon completion of initial training, Lance Corporal Scott was assigned aboard Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, NC and would twice deploy to Japan and the Philippines. While deployed, Corporal Scott attended the Noncommissioned Officers Course and upon graduation was designated Honor Graduate.
In November of 1990, Sergeant Scott was transferred to NAS Norfolk for duty. Assigned to HMM-774, Sergeant Scott deployed to Southwest Asia in support of Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm.
In April 1994, Sergeant Scott attended the Advance Integrated Weapons Systems Maintenance Course and subsequently was assigned as an instructor. During this tour Sergeant Scott was promoted to Staff Sergeant, attended the Career Course, and upon graduation was designated an Honor Graduate.
In December 1997, Staff Sergeant Scott returned to MCAS Cherry Point. He was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant in February 1999 and served as Squadron Gunnery Sergeant for both MALS-14 and for the Aviation Combat Element of the 24th MEU. The 24th MEU deployment was highlighted by its participation in Operation Allied Force – Kosovo. During this tour Gunnery Sergeant Scott attended the SNCO Advanced Course and was recognized as a Distinguished Graduate.
From July 2001 through January 2005, Gunnery Sergeant Scott was assigned in Okinawa where he would serve with the Command Element, III MEF and MALS-36. During this period, Gunnery Sergeant Scott served on CG, III MEF special staff and participated in numerous exercises, to include Cobra Gold, Yama Sakura, and Balikatan, along with supporting events such as annual commemorations of the Battle of Iwo Jima. While assigned to MALS-36, Gunnery Sergeant Scott served as Squadron Gunnery Sergeant and would stand up, direct, and graduate the unit’s inaugural Corporals Course.
In January 2005 First Sergeant Scott reported for duty at 3d Radio Battalion aboard Marine Corps Base Hawaii. During this assignment he served as First Sergeant of both Headquarters and Service and Alpha Companies. In June 2005, First Sergeant Scott deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
From May 2008 through June 2011, Sergeant Major Scott served with 4th Combat Engineer Battalion headquartered in Baltimore, MD and supported the mobilization of Reserve Component Marines for duty in Iraq throughout the entire 3 year tour. Additionally, the battalion participated in numerous engineering projects throughout CONUS and Africa.
In July 2011, Sergeant Major Scott reported to 1ST Battalion, 4th Marines, 1st Marine Division aboard Camp Pendleton, CA. During this tour he would also serve as Sergeant Major of Battalion Landing Team 1/4 and participate in numerous exercises in the Pacific with the 31st MEU.
In November 2012, Sergeant Major Scott reported to his present assignment at Security and Emergency Services Battalion.
Sergeant Major Scott’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal ( w/2 gold stars) , Navy/Marine Corps Commendation medal, the Navy/Marine Corps Achievement medal ( w/gold star), and Combat Action Ribbon. He is married and has one son.
