Colonel John Medeiros, Jr currently serves as the Deputy Commander, Marine Corps Installations West-Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, California. He is a native of New Jersey and graduated from Tennessee State University.
His prior command assignments were as Commanding Officer, Second Assault Amphibian Battalion, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina and the Commanding Officer, Assault Amphibian School, Camp Pendleton, California.
His prior operational assignments include Second Assault Amphibian Battalion (2D AABN), Camp Lejeune NC where he served as the Battalion Assistant Operations Officer, Platoon Commander, and Company Executive Officer Alpha Co. During this time, he deployed with the 24th MEU, supporting Operation NOBILE ANVIL, Kosovo. He served in Third Marine Division, Combat Assault Battalion, Okinawa Japan as a Company Commander (Camp Fuji, Det) and Headquarters and Service Company. While in Okinawa, Colonel Medeiros served as the Operations Officer for Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force Landing Force Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training deploying throughout III MEF Area of Responsibility.
He returned to 2D AA BN to serve as a Company Commander and the Battalion Operations Officer. During this time, he deployed in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM II and Operation ENDURING FREEDOM as a Future Operations Officer (CJ35) and Border Mentor-Adviser with CJTF-101, Regional Command-East, Afghanistan. Upon return he assumed duties as the Battalion Executive Officer for 2D AA BN.
His supporting establishment assignments include: Officer Candidates School, where he served as a platoon commander; Program Office- Advance Amphibious Assault Vehicle (PM AAA) serving as the Project Manager, Guns and Ammunition.; Joint Staff, J7 Joint Force Development, serving with the Deployable Training Division as the Plans Branch lead and Observer Trainer lead.
Additional staff billets include serving as J5 country planner and the Contingency Operations Officer for Combined Joint Task Force- Horn of Africa, Djibouti supporting OEF. Following his deployment, he served as Assistant Chief of Staff, G-7 Inspector General, Second Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, NC. Colonel Medeiros then returned to Okinawa serving as the Assistant Chief of Staff G-3 Operations Officer followed by the Division Chief of Staff, Third Marine Division. Colonel Medeiros joined the MCI-WEST team as the Command Inspector General for MCI-WEST, MCB Camp Pendleton before assuming duties as the Deputy Commander.
He is a graduate of Expeditionary Warfare School, USMC Command and Staff, and the Naval War College Newport Rhode Island. He holds a Masters in Military Studies and a Masters in National Security and Strategic Studies.
