Media Advisory #18-004 - Pendleton Fire Department conducts heavy equipment workshop
1 May 2018

Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton Fire Department (CPFD) will host media on May 2, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. CPFD, California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE), and Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) will add 38 miles of firebreaks to the existing 164 miles on the installation. Firebreaks help assist in keeping fires from leaving the installation, damaging property, and harming personnel.

Neighboring fire departments use Camp Pendleton’s yearly fire operations as a resource to train and improve firefighting tactics. The base is able to successfully fight dozens of fires every year in large part because of the extensive training and preparation the CPFD conducts in coordination with local and state agencies.

On a typical day, CPFD has approximately 50 personnel able to respond to the 185 average annual fires that occur on base.
