CAMP PENDLETON -- The vegetation fire that began in the 20 Area north of the Main Gate and east of I-5 is 80 percent contained. The fire started at approximately 2:10 p.m., today. Heavy smoke is visible in the area.
The Camp Pendleton Fire Department and mutual aid assets are on the scene. Three fire fighters received injuries due to heat or inhalation. Two received minor injuries and were treated on scene. The third received moderate injuries and was transported to local medical facilities.
The Camp Pendleton Fire Dept. and mutual aid assets have begun mop ups.
Vandegrift Blvd has one lane open in both directions.
The fire does not currently pose a threat to base residents or the surrounding community.
