CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. -- Artillery units are conducting live-fire training exercises that will involve firing around the clock on the Whisky and Zulu impact areas, on the northern part of the base from midnight Friday, Feb. 13 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15.
Units will also conduct an exercise that involves the detonation of Mine Clearing Line Charges, here, Thursday, Feb. 18 and Friday, Feb. 20 from 6 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Mine Clearing Line Charges are 1,750 pounds of linked C-4 (Composition C) explosives used to create a breach in minefields under combat conditions.
Depending on atmospheric conditions, the sound of the explosions may be amplified and heard up to 50 miles away.
