In coordination with Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southwest (NAVFAC SW), who oversee all housing programs on Camp Pendleton, residents are allowed to own and use portable air–conditioners based on approved permissions from the PPV property management companies.

Portable air-conditioners can be easily moved into a home to remove heat and moisture and ensure the comfort of those living inside the home. Air-conditioner units cannot exceed 120 volts of alternating current or 15 amperes (AMPS). Depending on each housing district, the British thermal units (BTUs) maximum on each air-conditioner unit will range from 6,000 BTUs to 8,000 BTUs.

Before residents use portable air-conditioning units, they must speak with their local PPV property management office. The PPV management office will require residents to fill out a modification request that will be attached to their housing lease agreement and address potential restrictions on type and size of air-conditioner units. Residents should be aware that increased use of air-conditioner units will result in increased cost in electricity.

Camp Pendleton’s intent for this policy is to improve the quality of life for base residents while still protecting Camp Pendleton’s electric utility infrastructures. All residents can direct questions to their local PPV property management office.
