ENVIRONMENTAL TRAINING

Camp Pendleton provides environmental training through a number of classroom and online course offerings.  The training is available for Marine Corps Base and tenant unit personnel whose jobs and or duties, per environmental regulations and Marine Corps policy, require it.

 

24-Hour Hazardous Waste Handler courseware provides instruction on 29 CFR 1910.120 (Q)(6), 40 CFR 265, and 49 CFR 172.704 covering the following subjects:

-Unit Environmental Compliance Program

-Hazardous Waste Handling

-Hazardous Waste Compatibility

-First Responders Operation

-Hazardous Waste Disposal Procedures

-Hazardous Material Division (HMD) Site Administration

 

8-Hour Hazardous Waste Handler Refresher courseware provides instruction on 29 CFR 1910.120 (Q)(6), 40 CFR 265, and 49 CFR 172.704 covering the following subjects:

8-Hour Hazardous Material Hazardous Operator courseware provides instruction on Defense Transportation Regulations and TM 11240-15/3H covering the following subjects:

-Maintain Forms and Documents

-Inspect Hazardous Material/Hazardous Waste before transporting

-Determine the Compatibility of Hazardous Material/Hazardous Waste

-Respond to Spill When Transporting Hazardous Material/Hazardous Waste

Environmental Compliance Coordinators.   Environmental compliance coordinators meet on the second Tuesday of each month from 1330-1430 at Building 2282.  G-3/4, S-3/4, Environmental Officers, and HAZMAT personnel are also welcome to attend.

8 Hour Hazardous Material Hazardous Waste Operator course

8 Hour Hazardous Waste Handler Refresher Course

Achieve the MOS requirements for MOS 8056, Hazardous Material/Hazardous Waste (HM/HW) Officer (Capt to 2ndLt) and (CWO3 to WO)or Staff Noncommissioned Officer/Noncommissioned Officer (MGySgt to LCpl)

Federal, state and local regulations compel compliance the Federal Facility Compliance Act(FFCA); costs of non-compliance outweigh temporary benefit (civil, criminal penalties, UCMJ, remediation).

MCO 5090.2 (Marine Corps Environmental Protection Program) Volume 5 provides Comprehensive Environmental Training and Education Program (CETEP) guidance.
