CAMP PENDLETON, Calif -- Headquarters and Support Battalion, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton held a motivational run and cake cutting ceremony in celebration of the Marine Corps’ 242nd birthday, November 8, 2017.
Groups of three to five Marines, from each company, ran two miles each, totaling the 242 years of the Corps’ existence.
The mission of the run was to develop camaraderie, esprit de corps and promote physical fitness.
“We’re taking a pause to commemorate our heritage, and honor what we do as Marines,” said 1st Sgt. Corey Wright, Headquarters Company first sergeant.
Marines from all over the battalion participated in the run to commemorate 242 years of honor, courage, and commitment.
“It was a smorgasbord out there,” said Wright. Adding, “Both enlisted and officers celebrating our birthday and spread the comradery of the battalion.”
The events also provided an opportunity for Marines, who could not attend the recent birthday ball, to share in the traditional cake.
