SAN DIEGO, Calif. --
Headquarters, Marine Corps, Installations and Logistics, in partnership with University of California, San Diego (UCSD), will host the first-ever Hybrid Logistics Symposium from Feb. 26 – March 1, 2018. One hundred Marines and Sailors, including junior enlisted, junior officer, and civilian Marines will join UCSD students to participate in the symposium, focusing on the concept of Hybrid Logistics as key to the success of Marine Corps logistics in 2025 and beyond.
“Moving toward a hybrid logistics model will require a logistics community that questions conventional wisdom without ignoring the realities of the modern battlefield. The Hybrid Logistics Symposium is the first step toward getting feedback on our processes from our brightest Marine logisticians," said LtGen Michael Dana, Deputy Commandant for Installations.
Hybrid Logistics is the blending of proven logistics tactics with innovative methods of sustaining Marines in combat. It consists of five thrust areas – additive manufacturing, unmanned logistics systems, smart logistics, expeditionary energy, and expeditionary medicine. Employing Hybrid Logistics means training for today’s battlefield while planning for tomorrow’s solutions.
To accomplish this goal, the symposium will consist of a series of interconnected briefs, panels, and breakout groups led by top researchers and faculty from UCSD, the City of San Diego, Microsoft, Satori, and DoD labs. Participants in the event, who were nominated by their Command and selected by committee, will be broken into ten separate cohort groups. At the conclusion of the event, each cohort will present their top ideas for the future Marine Corps logistics community to a panel of judges from the Marine Corps, UCSD, DIUx and MD5. The winning cohort will be given the opportunity to develop their findings further with DIUx and MD5.
