Press Release #13-026 Noise levels may increase aboard Camp Pendleton

The 11th Marine Regiment is scheduled to conduct a live-fire training exercise Whiskey and Zulu impact areas, Aug. 19 through 28.

24-hour firing will be conducted throughout Monday night into Tuesday morning (Aug.19 to Aug. 20).

Depending on atmospheric conditions, the sound of the explosions may be amplified and heard up to 50 miles away. Regimental live-fire artillery exercises involve Howitzers, High Mobility Artillery Rockets (HIMARS) and 120 mm mortars.

Local Marine and Navy units will also provide aviation and logistical support to the regiment. The units include squadrons from the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, providing attack helicopters and troop carriers support; unmanned aerial surveillance support from Marine Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Squadron 3; beach-landing support from Assault Craft Unit 5, and logistical support from Combat Logistics Regiment 1.
