CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. -- More than 350 volunteers from Home Depot’s Building Materials departments and Habitat for Humanity conducted improvements to the facilities aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, June 7, 2017.

The volunteer work was part of Home Depot’s ongoing efforts to improve the homes and lives of U.S. military members and their families. Since 2011, the Home Depot Foundation has transformed more than 33,000 homes and facilities for veterans across the country.

“We all want to help out,” said Chris Baiocchi, Vice President of Development for Habitat for Humanity of Orange County. “I think it’s important for everyone to do what they can to help those who are serving.”

Over the course of three and a half hours, the volunteers worked to upgrade the 13 Area Guard House and K9 training facilities and created six custom playhouses for children living aboard the installation.
The volunteers were split into groups, each with specific tasks.

Volunteers at the guard house renovated the living areas and kitchenette so that the Marines working there could live more comfortably. At K9, the volunteers painted and repaired kennels and constructed a new shade area and obstacle course to improve the quality of training. The third group constructed the playhouses to provide an entertaining and enriching environment for base children to play.
