On Sept. 21 Jeffrey Ross posted an update on his facebook page that said, “Any Marines stationed at California’s Camp Pendleton please stop by my book signing on Thursday between 4-6 p.m. and stab me in the foot.”

He followed the post with a comment that said, “I meant Wednesday! I’m jet-lagged.”

Stand-up comedian, actor, director and now author Jeffrey Ross visited Camp Pendleton Sept. 23 to promote his first book, “I Only Roast The Ones I Love.”

Ross sat at Mainside’s Country Store talking to Marines and signing copies of the newly released recount of his journey to fame.

The book also includes tips on writing jokes and his ideas on how to put on a roast. Ross is probably best-known as the current Roastmaster General for Comedy Central’s Celebrity Roasts.

Ross is an active supporter of U.S. troops. He directed the documentary “Patriot Act: A Jeffrey Ross Home Movie” about his life-changing experience entertaining U.S. troops in Iraq. It won the Best Feature Film Award at the Montreal Comedy Festival.

Ross is considered as one of the last insult comedians.

Camp Pendleton Marines appreciated Ross taking time to visit Pendleton and talk to them.

Sgt. Tim J. Orendain, motor transport mechanic, Combat Logistics Battalion 1, Combat Logistics Regiment 1, 1st Marine Logistics Group, said he is a Jeffrey Ross fan.

“I sat down to eat at Johnny Rockets and (Ross) sat next to me and bought me dinner,” he said. Orendain was happily surprised to see Ross and was one of the first Marines to receive a signed book.
