Christmas came early this year at Camp Pendleton as the illuminated Holiday Toy Express Train made its fourth annual stop to deliver holiday spirit to families, at Pacific Plaza, Dec.6.

More than 500 spectators witnessed the 500-ton commuter train, decorated with more than 50,000 sparkling lights, bring in Rudolph, Frosty, Mr. and Mrs. Claus and many others.

“This is a great way to start the holiday season,” said Ashley Bynum, military spouse, Camp Pendleton. “I’ve seen this show three times, and it just seems to get better and better every year.”

As the Holiday Toy Express Train made its stop, Santa Claus and his festive friends stepped on stage and put on a live performance to various holiday musical favorites.

“My children absolutely loved it,” said Bynum. “This is one of those things you just shouldn’t miss, not to mention you get a lot of free stuff.”

Before Santa Claus arrived, family members were treated to free food, face painting, entertainment provided by festive elf characters and a raffle, where the winners received presents from Santa himself.

A Toys for Tots booth was also set up for attendees to donate new unwrapped toys.

“It feels good to lend a helping hand to those who need it the most, said Bynum. “I hope that everyone around the country has a memorable   Christmas holiday because we’ve already had one tonight.”

The finale of Santa’s musical performance came with a cannon shooting white confetti into the sky giving the children of Pendleton the gift of a white Christmas.
