MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. -- Base Officials are asking all military and civilian personnel, as well as Base residents to conserve electricity, especially during the peak hours between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Here are some easy ways to conserve energy by using less electricity between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.:
1. Raise your central A/C's thermostat setting four to six degrees from where you usually have it set.
2. Use fans to delay or reduce the need for cooling.
3. Turn off all unused office equipment, including computers, monitors, printers, copiers, fax machines and scanners.
4. Shut off exhaust fans when the rooms they serve are unoccupied unless health codes require constant ventilation.
5. Turn off water circulation devices between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.
6. Shade windows, doors and skylights with awnings, sunscreens and blinds.
7. Turn off all decorative lighting and reduce lighting in areas that are not being used.
8. Use newer "smart" power strips that can turn off equipment when it's not in use.
9. Educate and encourage Marines and civilians to be energy-conscious and to offer ideas about how energy can be saved.
