More than 100 guests gathered on San Onofre Beach here to witness the dedication of four new beach cottages, June 18, for the recreational use of Marines, sailors and their families.

Organizations and companies like the San Diego Nice Guys, Lowes, and the La Jolla and Rancho rotaries contributed time and money to help build the cottages.

Mary Ann Blair, one of the major donors to the cottage project, said “I hope this gives Marines a place to get some time away from any stresses. What could be better than being by the ocean in wonderful Southern California?”

Blair said she contributed to show her appreciation for America’s service men and women.

“I’d like to thank all of the Marines for their service to the United States. They don’t get enough recognition,” said Blair.

During the ceremony, Blair met with some Marines from the Wounded Warrior Battalion here while they examined the one, two and three bedroom cottages located on a bluff that overlooks the Pacific Ocean.

“It’s heart-warming to meet them because they are so young and have sacrificed so much for all of us,” said Blair. “To be able to do things like this is just a small part of what should be done to support them.”

“These cottages present a great opportunity for the Marines and families here, and it’s a great addition to this beach,” said Louie Montes, a team leader with Wounded Warrior Battalion.

Blair’s sister, Anita Sumoski, also attended the event where the cottages were dedicated in the names of their father and three of their uncles.

Sumoski said she appreciated the Marines honoring her family and hopes that they all enjoy the new facilities with their loved ones.
