Fireworks Safety on Pendleton

19 Jun 2014 | Chief Robert T. Johnson Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton

Fireworks are often used to mark special events and holidays. However, they are not safe in the hands of some consumers. Fireworks cause thousands of burns and eye injuries each year. In 2011, almost 18,000 fires were caused by fireworks nationwide.  Sparklers caused 16% of fireworks injuries.

Camp Pendleton Base order 11320.13 prohibits the sale, storage, transportation, possession or use of fireworks of any description and in many cases unlawful. This includes sparklers and firecrackers. Sparklers burn hot, at 1200 degrees, enough to cause third-degree burns.

To enjoy a festive display of fireworks, visit the July 4th celebration at Del Mar Beach beginning at sundown.
