The Marine Corps Base Spartans, with a record of 2-1, claimed a 34-0 victory over the 3-0 Miramar Falcons at the Paige Fieldhouse football field, Sept. 23.

The Spartans had first possession and displayed a dominant offense as quarterback Bryce Pruitt launched the ball deep to Brandon Bonds for three receptions totaling about 60 yards before finding wide receiver Calvin Jackson in the end zone, taking a 6-0 lead after a missed extra point.

The Falcons defense held the Spartans off until the second quarter when the Spartans extended their lead to 12-0 just before the half with a series of short runs that set up a deep pass over the middle to Bryce Pruitt, who doubled as a wide receiver for this game.

Miramar received the ball at the start of the half, but gave it right back as the Spartans forced an interception and ran it back for their third touchdown of the game. They led 20-0 after a successful two-point conversion.

Miramar’s next offensive drive failed as they were penalized for a personal foul. They punted from their own two-yard line, which set the Spartans up with a short field.

Spartans’ running back Mycqwon Nubine exploded up the center on his first carry in the 2nd half, taking the ball 25 yards to the end zone for six, tacking on to their lead. The Spartans led 26-0 after a failed two-point conversion.

The Falcons were able to move the ball into the red zone several times, but the Spartans’ defense gave them nothing, forcing a turnover each and every time whether by interception or by downs.

The Spartans’ offense took over the field at the opponent’s 40-yard line at the end of the fourth quarter, and Nubine took it to the house on another handoff up the middle, bringing about the final score of 34-0.

“This win was huge after they beat us 23-0 last year in same game of the season,” said Nubine. “There is definitely a friendly rivalry between our teams, so we had no option but to retaliate.”

The Spartans climbed to 3-1 on the season, and the Falcons fell to 3-1, bringing their undefeated season to an end.
