CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. -- The Marine Corps Community Services’ Marine Corps Family Team Building group hosted a Family Readiness Resource Fair at the Stuart Mesa Housing area for local service members and their families, Dec. 10.
Visitors to the fair were provided information on a variety of the MCCS family-friendly services available to them on base. The information provided covered such topics such as emergency preparedness, health insurance and family planning.
MCCC organizations participating in the fair offered candy, cupcakes, a bounce house and Christmas card making to keep the children entertained while their parents visited the information booths.
“We’re trying to pull in the spouses and family members in the local housing areas so they can come out and see the resources while feeling at home in their own backyard,” said Tom Wagner, a readiness support trainer with MCFTB.
Among those who came out to see the fair were Michael and Adrianna Poole, who’d lived on Camp Pendleton for the last two and half years yet had never been to a MCFTB event before.
“We got a lot of helpful information today,” said Michael. “Now that we know about it, we’ll be going to future events."
The Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, Family Advocacy, Exceptional Family Member Program, Camp Pendleton Library, Provost Marshall Office and other base family service organizations were had booths where they taught the families about the various services they provide.
The fair and similar MCFTB events provide easy access to the many resources available to families on base, said Wagner. It also helps to give them someone to talk to, face-to-face, on a personal level.
