New dental center opens on Pendleton

4 Jun 2009 | Cpl. Daniel Lutz Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton

A new dental facility opened its doors to Camp Pendleton Marines, sailors base employees and their families, June 2.

Pendleton Family Dental, which offers state-of-the-art-dental care, opened two brand new buildings aboard Pendleton. One in the Pacific Plaza near the front gate and a second location on Mainside, behind the base theater.

The center is open Monday thru Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The facility uses brand new digital x-rays, charts and a digital intraoral camera to aid dentists and registered dental assistants in providing oral hygienic care.

“We offer care that most other places won’t offer because we want the families to get the best there is,” said Eric Kaw, chief executive officer, Venture Health Group. “Of all the facilities in the United States, this is one of the best.”

New digital crowning technology allows dentists to make a computer generated mold of a tooth crown in a few minutes instead of a few weeks, which makes the care a lot more expedient than traditional gel molds, said Kaw.

Pendleton Family Dental focuses on customer comfort and making the dental experience more enjoyable for its patrons.

Massaging chairs help customers relax, while doctors and dental technicians see to their oral needs and TV connected glasses allow patients to watch TV programs while having work done on their teeth, gums and mouth, said Jennifer R. Bolton, territory manager, Milestone Scientific.

“This place is just awesome,” said Col. Philippe D. Rogers, commanding officer, Headquarters and Support Battalion, Marine Corps Base. “I predict this will be a smashing success based on the customer care they are providing.”

Patients using TRICARE will not pay anything for basic care such as diagnostics, basic cleanings and emergency services, but will have to pay a copayment on all other services; PFD also accepts most preferred provider organizations plans.
