MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. -- Cheering fans crowded the sidelines for Camp Pendleton’s 2010 tackle-football opening game at the 11 Area football field, Aug. 10.
The Edison Range “Raiders” set the tone of their season with a 6-0 shut-out against the Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego “Titans.”
The game opened with the kickoff to the Raiders who were quickly stopped by the Titans, turning the strength in the opposite direction and forcing a punt. But the Raiders eventually scored the only points for the game at the end of the first quarter.
“Even though our defensive line had good pass protection, the Raiders were able to throw for a touchdown,” said Isaiah Peart, Titans team captain and defensive end.
The Raiders defensive line also played aggressively, stopping almost every running play, said Peart. However, the intensity and conviction of the Titans defense forced many bad passes for the Raiders.
After the first touchdown, the Titans still did not lose their intensity. The competition stayed heated all the way through to the final seconds of the fourth quarter.
“We all got together because we love the game,” said Anthony Roseman, a Titan’s wide-receiver. “These games allow us to put our ranks down and just have fun with and against our brothers in arms. As for what we can do to improve, we need to work on being multi-dimensional and incorporate more passes. Although we lost, we still have a chance to have a great season, he said.”
