Corps' largest MCX opens for business

The largest shopping experience in the Marine Corps was introduced to service members and their families aboard Camp Pendleton, May 3.

The recently constructed Marine Corps Exchange officially opened near Pendleton's Main Gate, directly adjacent to the Pacific Plaza and will offer residence an expanded variety of consumer goods. The MCX facility will provide convenient, one-stop services and sales to over 41,000 Marines, sailors, countless dependents and retired veterans. Some of the MCX’s products and services include the following: Marine Corps Community Services retail, military clothing, barber shop, vision center, watch and jewelry repair, engraving shop, computer technicians, cell phone vendor, Yogurt Land, Dunkin’ Donuts, tailor shop, 24-hour dry cleaners, a florist, West Coast Customs and many more.

"If you take a look at this barber shop, whether you need a haircut or not, you will probably go get a haircut,” said Lee Farmer, the senior staff officer of MCCS MCI-West, MCB Camp Pendleton.

In anticipation of the new exchange, a large selection of the products and amenities previously offered at the 11 Area MCX, electronic store and novelty store have been transferred to the new exchange now located in 20 area.

Due to the opening of the MCX in 20 area, the former 11 area clothing store is now a miniature version of Camp Pendleton’s newest Marine Corps Exchange, said Jessica A. Brooks, an administrative assistant at MCCS.

Brig. Gen Vincent A. Coglianese, commanding general of Marine Corps Installations West - Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, along with other VIPs cut a ceremonial ribbon declaring the more than 147,000 sq. ft. complex open for business.

The contract for this massive facility was awarded in May 2010, said Navy Cmdr. Russ Rang, resident officer in charge of construction (ROICC), Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southeast for Camp Pendleton. Through design and construction, this project was delivered in February 2012, totaling in more than 40 million dollars.
