Congressman Jason Chaffetz, Chairman of the House Oversight Government and Reform Committee, was escorted by members of MCIWEST MCB-CAMPEN Government and External Affairs on a tour of training facilities and tenant commands aboard Camp Pendleton, April 6. The day concluded with a tour of the Infantry Immersion Trainer, a hands-on, mixed reality training facility that simulates the sights, smells, sounds and feel of village, in designated locations. Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton supported the Ironman 70.3 California Triathlon held on base and in Oceanside, March 28. The Ironman triathlon is an endurance competition that includes 1.2 miles of swimming by Oceanside, 56 miles of biking around Camp Pendleton and a 13.1 mile half-marathon in Oceanside. California Pizza Kitchen sent more than 700 Volunteers to assist School of Infantry – West Marines and Sailors to clean and renovate areas of San Onofre Beach, March 18. Lance Cpl. Dakota Bracken and wife Lauren adopt Rambo, a four-year-old American Bulldog during the St. Patrick’s Day Lucky Adoption Event, March 14 at the Camp Pendleton Animal Shelter. With events like the St. Patrick’s Day Lucky Adoption Event, the base shelter hopes to promote pet adoption by reducing normal adoption fees from $110 for dogs and $85 for cats to a cheaper amount which the adopters randomly draw from a hat. The fees are inclusive of neutering, a rabies vaccine, tracking microchip, a distemper vaccine and flea control. - Lance Cpl. The Marine Corps Trials were established to promote the health and wellness of wounded, ill, and injured Marines and Sailors. The Advanced Infantry Training Battalion hosted a ceremony to dedicate the Vietnam Room of Remembrance, Feb.18. The room is located in the battalion's theater, often used for graduations, and the ceremony included the graduation of the Advanced Assaultman Course Class 1-15. Louis A.
