CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. - Three teams of two competed for the title of the Culinary Team of the Quarter at the 31 Area Mess Hall on Edson Range here June 11. The winners for this quarter were Team 1, Dustin Delmar and Anthony Stewart who work at the 33 Area Mess Hall here.The competition is a two-day event. On the first day, 12 teams competed in a book test and a Jeopardy-style quiz. Only four teams qualified to move on to the cooking portion of the competition the following day.The theme of the cooking competition this third quarter was barbeque, and each team was expected to make a protein dish using chicken or pork, cornbread and a salad. For the first time this quarter the competition included 45 minutes of assistance to each team from guest chef Rahm Fama.This competition is used not only as an training tool, but also to build camaraderie among the food service community, said Donovan Brown, the Marine Corps Installations West regional executive chef.From Left to Right: 2nd place winners Cpl. Georges St-Pierre, mixed martial artist and UFC world champion, meets Marine volunteers and runners at the 22nd World Famous Mud Run on Camp Pendleton June 8. Marines and sailors competed in the Commanding General's Cup Mud Run at Lake O'Neill June 6. The run is a 10K with militaristic obstacles including a rope net, wall climb and low crawling through a mud pit. The Las Pulgas fire started at 3:15 p.m. Thursday and effected Camp las Pulgas, Camp Margarita, Camp Las Flores, the 32 Area, the 22 Area and the 23 Area. Lieutenant General John A. Toolan Jr. was the guest speaker at the motorcycle safety seminar held at the base theatre May 8. May is motorcycle safety awareness month and the seminar was held to kick off this year’s motorcycle safety campaign and to ensure the Marines and sailors on Camp Pendleton understand the dangers of riding motorcycles. “We have lost more Marines due to motorcycle accidents this fiscal year than we have in Afghanistan,” said Toolan. “It is so important to ensure we are following the laws of the road and looking out for each other on the road.” Toolan is the commanding general of I Marine Expeditionary Force. - Lieutenant General John A. Chaffee, Ark., April 19-26.The shooting and tactics competition tested the skills, techniques and procedures of 17, 2-man sniper teams from different branches of service, with Ramos and Garvey representing the West Coast Marines.Ramos and Garvey are instructors at the Sniper Basic Course, Advanced Infantry Battalion here. - Sgt. The Remembrance Rescue Project visited Camp Pendleton April 25. The Remembrance Rescue Project was created by firefighters to restore Rescue 4 and Rescue 5 as an educational effort for society, especially for those too young to remember the events of September 11. Rescue 4 and 5 are rescue engines used by New York emergency personnel during the events of September 11. - The Remembrance Rescue Project visited Camp Pendleton April 25.
