Colonel Massey was born in Hollywood, CA and raised in Covina, CA (22 miles east of L. A.).  Upon graduation from high school in 1984, he served on active duty for one year in which he completed Basic Training at MCRD San Diego and MOS School in Milington, TN, and then served as a drilling reservist throughout college as an electrician with MAG-46 at MCAS El Toro, CA; and at 3rd ANGLICO as a field radio operator in Long Beach, CA.  Upon completion of college, Corporal Massey was commissioned a Second Lieutenant through the Platoon Leaders Class program on 10 November 1989.

In the 1990s, he served as the 3rd AA Bn Adjutant AT Camp Pendleton, 1stMarDiv HQBN Adjutant at Camp Pendleton, 7th Marines Regimental Adjutant in 29 Palms, Admin Officer LP Division I&L HQMC, and as a Congressional Liaison Representative at OLAC HQMC Arlington, VA.

In 2000, Major Massey crossed over to the Active Reserve Program and served as the MACG-48 Group Adjutant in Chicago and in 2003 as the Branch Head for RAA, RA, HQMC in Quantico, VA.

In 2006, shortly after being promoted, Lieutenant Colonel Massey transferred to Norfolk VA to be the Reserve Liaison Officer for Marine Forces Command. During this time, Lieutenant Colonel Massey attended the Joint Forces Staff College 10 week JPME II course.

In 2007, Lieutenant Colonel Massey deployed to Islamabad Pakistan for 1 year where he served as the Marine Liaison Officer to the Pakistan Marine Corps as well as the Program Manager for CENTCOM’s Security Development plan for Western Pakistan, in which he worked closely with the Pakistan Frontier Corps and Pakistan Army.

In 2009, LtCol Massey transferred to I MEF to assume the duties as the I MEF Reserve Liaison Officer in which his team recruited and mobilized approx 400 IA Reservists to support I MEF’s deployment to Afghanistan.

Colonel Massey was promoted to his current rank on 1 July 2011 in which he received PCS orders to MARFORRES and reported aboard to 4th MLG as the G-1.  A year later on 1 July 2012 he fleeted up to be the G-1 for MARFORRES for his second year in New Orleans.

Colonel Massey’s personal decorations include the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. 

Colonel Massey holds an A. A. Degree in Commercial Flight from Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, CA; a B. S. Degree in Aviation Administration from California State, University Los Angeles; and a Master’s Degree in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix.
