MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. -- Trafficking of personnel paperwork through several different chains of command -- a process that can take days -- is coming to an end. That's because the Corps is taking nearly all of its administrative functions online.
The Corps is now requiring all Marines to register with Marine Online, a Web-based administrative portal, by October.
More than 88 percent of Marines have enrolled in the new MOL, thereby taking more control over the administrative process, said Sgt. Justin A. Furlong, an analyst with the base Manpower Information Systems Support Office.
The service also increases control for unit leaders like 1st Sgt. Connie Arline of Headquarters Company, Brigade Service Support Group 1, 1st Force Service Support Group.
She can approve leave requests and temporary additional duty orders from the comfort of her living room.
"I was able to go home, look at pros/cons and hit a button to 'approve,'" said Arline, who recently returned from a seven-month deployment to Iraq, serving as the company first sergeant for Headquarters Co., Headquarters and Service Battalion, 1st FSSG.
"We're in the computer age, so it's easier for staff noncommissioned officers to log on and do what they have to do," she said.
MOL has been reworked for broader capability, according to its Web site. Until recently, its features included training records, unit rosters and pay and leave summaries.
Now, Marines and unit leaders can not only view those records but take administrative action, like submitting and approving leave requests, special liberty and permissive temporary additional duty.
They can also view morning reports, update training records and perform other administrative functions, including fitness reports.
Marines can also electronically submit personnel action requests to their administration sections via Marine Online on personal awards, housing, legal and medical issues.
