MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. -- Normally, an individual would have to take time off during their busy work week to visit the Camp Pendleton Base veterinary, but Saturday the base Veterinary Treatment Facility is making it a little easier for pet owners; they are scheduled to hold a vaccine clinic, from 8 to 11 a.m.
The clinic will be accessible to all military family members, active-duty and retired military, Department of Defense and Marine Corps Community Services employees.
“An individual will have to meet the requirements for their pet to be seen on Saturday,” said Janice Parris, office manager, base VTF. Requirements include pet owners bringing their military or DoD identification cards and animals must be healthy.
“If the animal vaccine clinic has not seen your dog or cat, it is recommended to bring in their vaccine records,” Parris said. “If there are no prior records, we will only give the animal the annual vaccination.”
According to the VTF flyer, the veterinary facility will provide Rabies, Bordetella, Distemper, Parvo, Leukemia and Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, Chlamydia and Panleukopenia vaccines. The VTF will also provide heartworm testing and nail trimming.
“Pet owners seeking other medical care will only be available during regular facility hours,” Parris said.
Pet owners who are interested in having their pet examined or seek other medical attention can schedule an appointment either by calling or stopping by the veterinary facility in Pacific Plaza.
The prices of the vaccines, testing and nail trimmings will be priced as the normal fee as if it was a regular visit to the base vet.
Along with medical attention being provided during the event, the Animal Control will be allowing pet owners to register their animals.
“The event is being held to help service members who have animals,” Parris said. “We thought this would be convenient for them because it would give them the chance to take care of their animals needs during the weekend, instead of during the work week.”
