H&S Battalion invites participants to first Jane Wayne Day

18 Jun 2009 | Cpl. Alvaro Aro Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton

Jane Wayne Day is known throughout the Marine Corps as an opportunity for spouses, friends and family members to participate in various Marine Corps training without enlisting.

This year, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton Headquarters and Support Battalion is scheduled to host its first Jane Wayne Day on June 20, at the 11 Area Parade Field.

Spouses and significant others of Headquarters and Support Battalion, Combat Logistics Battalion 11, 9th Communications Battalion, Security Battalion and 1st Radio Battalion are invited to participate in the event.

“We want this event to be fun, to give the participants a chance to experience just a small taste of what it takes to be a Marine,” said Rebecca Gamboa, family readiness officer, Headquarters and Support Battalion, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton.

Upon arrival, the participants will check-in with the reception team and be assigned to a platoon with squad instructors.  Once all platoons have been assigned, former drill instructors will take charge of the platoons.

Participants will take part in a modified Combat Fitness Test, shoot at the 9th Comm. Bn. Indoor Simulator Marksmanship Trainer and enjoy a display of tactical vehicles and communication equipment.

A demonstration from Security Battalion's K-9 unit, the Camp Pendleton Special Reaction Team, and the Explosive Ordinance Disposal Robotics will also be included.

“As a spouse, I feel it’s great to have these opportunities,” said Gamboa. “Just getting the chance to participate and see what he does makes all the difference.”

Participants are encouraged to dress in clothing that they would not mind getting dirty.
