MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. -- Field Medical Training Battalion held a ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the grand opening of their newly renovated barracks, June 17.
For more than two years, Field Medical Training Battalion has been in the process of renovating their outdated squad bays. With the hard work and dedication from the FMT Bn. and a local construction company the $4 million project is now open for residents.
“This is something that has been well deserved for the sailors for quite some time now,” said Chief Roy T. Dimapillis, store keeper, FMT Bn. “The new barracks should hopefully help the students excel in their academic studies by giving them a good atmosphere.”
Within six months an estimated 36,000 man-hours were contributed to the completion of the project.
The newly designed two-story, 19,000 square foot facility has the capability of providing a home to more than 300 sailors within two separate squad bays.
To help properly prepare the future corpsman for life on ship, the beds in the squad bays mimic those found on most naval vessels.
In addition to the newly constructed living quarters, a covered patio area with a barbeque pit and picnic tables were also added so sailors could enjoy leisure time while staying in their new home.
Also to assist with the sailor’s education, two lounges, one on each level, will be there to serve as recreational or studying locations.
