Pendleton opens new pass and identification office; extends service hours

2 Jul 2009 | Lance Cpl. Damien Gutierrez Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton

On July 13, a newly constructed San Onofre pass and identification office will be open for business. The San Onofre office will be located near the commissary complex, adjacent to The Zone Video Store in the 51 area.

Business hours at the Mainside and Main gate offices will be expanded and vehicle registration services will be available to base residents at both locations.

The Mainside office will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Main gate office will be open 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Friday, however, on Thursdays the office will be closed at 2:30 p.m.

“Camp Pendleton has a large number of Marines and family members who are stationed and live in the northern half of the base.  There are also a large number of retirees and their dependents who live in the communities just north of Camp Pendleton,” said Michael P. Stefanyshyn, manager, base access control branch.  “Opening a pass and identification office near them just makes sense.”

Pendleton processes approximately 1,200 identification cards and 1,500 vehicle registration transactions at the current JRC offices every week.

“One thing we wanted to do was to greatly reduce the amount of time it took to obtain identification cards and or registering your vehicle on the base.  I think the new pass and identification office will alleviate the volume at the Joint Reception Center,” said Stefanyshyn.

Camp Pendleton has been directed to implement policies which focus on the access control procedures for visitors. Camp Pendleton has, and is improving steps to address unauthorized access to the base and the protection of service members, residents and civilian employees, Stefanyshyn said.

For information regarding passes, identification cards and vehicle registration, contact one of the following offices: JRC Bldg. 130132 at (760) 725-2442, Main gate office Bldg. 20255 at (760) 725-2768 and the office in the Seaside Plaza Bldg. 51093 at (760) 763-6476.
