MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. -- More than 200 Marines from various units on Camp Pendleton participated in a special circuit course in honor of the 234th Marine Corps birthday at the Paige Fieldhouse, Nov. 4.
The Marine Corps Community Services Semper Fit sponsored course included 30-second interval exercises such as push-ups, jump rope, hurdles, crunches, tricep dips and other callisthenic activities.
“It was great seeing the Marines participate in something that affects all of us,” said Sgt. Chris Fisher, weapons technician, 1st Marine Division. “Being here with so many people really helps motivate you to perform.”
Semper Fit provides programs, such as the circuit course and other services that promote healthy behaviors, in efforts to increase productivity, reduce medical costs and enhance service member readiness.
“We put on events like this to show our support for those who fight for our freedom,” said Nicole Preston, health promotion coordinator, Semper Fit, MCCS. “What better way of returning the favor than by making them a stronger, healthier individual.”
After the birthday circuit course was over, the Marines replenished their energy with complementary protein bars and were given commemorative dog tags.
“This turned out to be one of the best exercise sessions I’ve had in a long time,” said Fisher. “I can’t wait until next year comes around so we can do it all over again.”
