Lincoln Military Housing hosted their annual Spring Carnival for thousands of service members and their families at Camp Pendleton’s Lake O'Neill, April 10.

“Under the Sea” was the theme of the affair that spanned the shores of the base's largest lake, and provided military families with everything from carnival rides and games to face painting and funnel cakes.

"These types of events are good for the family," said Christina Holmes, a Camp Pendleton military spouse. "We were able to spend Saturday together as a group."

All the food, giveaways and activities were provided at no cost to the base community, which included several raffles, bouncy houses, rock climbing walls and a working train to transport patrons around the carnival grounds.

"My family loves coming to this carnival, especially my son," said Cpl. Brandon D. Johnson, administrative clerk, Headquarters and Support Battalion, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton. "(LMH) really put forth a lot of effort every year, and it shows."

An estimated $50,000 was spent on food, drinks and supplies in order to put the celebration together for the military housing community. Organizers also brought together Lincoln's personnel from five district offices to work the event.

“(LMH) put on the carnival every year to promote communication between us and the residents of military housing,” said Dawn Baker, Resident Relations Liaison, LMH, MCB Camp Pendleton.

Housing also hired people specifically to work the event as team coordinators, trash removers, carnival booth workers, train operators, face painting artists and bounce house and climbing wall supervisors.

“This is military housing’s way of showing appreciation to the Camp Pendleton residents,” said Baker. “We really appreciate the personal relationship we have with them.”
