MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. -- Camp Pendleton’s Arts and Crafts Hobby Shop offers a wide variety of activities for all ages and abilities.
It is a unique and inexpensive place for patrons to explore their creativity that offers classes for woodworking, cake decorating, sewing, pottery, guitar and many other activities.
The shop is four weeks into an extensive Stained Glass course, in which participants learn how to stain, cut, buff, and solder pieces of glass for windows and other items.
“I took a stained glass course in high school,” said Cathy Pratt, Stained Glass student and Marine Spouse. “The class helped me re-learn my skills that forgot how much I love.”
Due to popular demand, the shop will be offering a new Glass Mosaic course in June.
A day at the hobby shop is a way to explore hidden talents, find new ones, or just be creative and enjoy a day as an artist, said Buddy Smith, Stained Glass Instructor, Arts and Crafts Hobby Shop.
“I always leave the sessions knowing something new,” said Pratt. “The classes also give me the skills I need so that I can do it on my own.”
The hobby shop is also an opportunity to enjoy time with family because it offers many activities for all skill levels and ages, said Lori Gerace, regular Hobby Shop patron and Marine spouse.
“We are here to provide service to our base community and those who support them,” said Smith. “I love being able to help out the military families with something they can enjoy.”
The Hobby Shop is open from Wednesday through Friday, 12 to 8 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The shop is located on Mainside, Building 13113.
