More than 27,000 service members, from every branch of the military, saw first-hand the magnitude of a concert filled with the music industry’s most popular divas, Dec. 3.

Katy Perry, Keri Hilson, Nicki Minaj, Sugarland, Grace Potter and the Nocturals, Heart and Kathy Griffin descended on Marine Corps Air Station Miramar to entertain the troops for the 2010 VH1 Divas Salute the Troops concert.

In addition to the musical guests, “Snooki” and “The Situation” of the Jersey Shore reality show, super model Marisa Miller, and one of the Geico Cavemen made appearances to show their support for the troops in the one-of-a-kind concert.

“Being able to be in a position to support the troops and bring a smile to their faces with something as simple as an autographed picture is what makes this important,” said Miller. “I love being able to help brighten our service men and women’s days.”

The free concert, which took place inside a hangar at the air station, was a joint effort between VH1, the USO, MCAS Miramar and Marine Corps Community Services.

“One of the benefits of being in the military is being able to participate in events that most others wouldn’t be able to see,” said Lance Cpl. Brennan Baum, a videographer at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms. “It was great to spend time with other service members while watching a concert that will be played worldwide.”

The 2010 VH1 Divas Salute the Troops concert aired Dec. 5, but has scheduled repeated showings on VH1. For more information check your local television listings.
