Nearly 100 Marines and sailors and their families took part in the Marine & Family Program’s Haunted Harvest Festival at the Abby Reinke Community Center here, Oct. 8.

Children played carnival-style games and enjoyed bouncy houses, while entire families wandered through a haunted maze and captured moments in the spooky photo booth.

More than 20 vendors set up booths providing information about their local services, from the animal shelter to the commissary.

“The volunteers run around making sure everything goes smoothly, but no one minds because the kids have a great time,” said Darcie McClain, the recreation specialist at Abby Reinke Community Center with Marine & Family Programs.

For those who missed this festival, the Stuart Mesa Community Center will hold a Harvest Festival on Oct. 26, and the San Onofre Community Center will host a Haunted House Festival Oct. 28 - 29.

“These events are an opportunity to let the families know that the Marine & Family Programs are here to support them and give them the opportunity to meet other families here,” said Veronica Largent, the assistant branch manager for Personal & Professional Development with Marine & Family Programs.
