More than 30 different employers and schools came to Camp Pendleton’s South Mesa Event Center, seeking the unique skill-sets our service members have to offer, during the semi-annual Civilian Job Fair, March 1.

The Civilian Job Fair vendors visit military installations all over the country to meet with transitioning military members to aid in finding a good career choice and ensure to a fluid transition into a civilian lifestyle.

“Our basic objective is to bring the employers directly to our transitioning military personnel,” said Denise Gilliam, the operations manager for CivilianJobs.com. “We here to help Marines and other service members go through a smoother transition out of the military.”

The goal of the job fair is to eliminate civilian competition so employers can see exactly what military members have to offer, Gilliam explained.

“Employers have a chance to work one-on-one with our service members without competing with the civilian sector,” said Gilliam. “We feel that our military personal have so much more to offer. They have the discipline, they’re not a 9-to-5 and they’re here until the job is done.”

For more than four years, the Civilian Job Fair has made its way around the nation visiting military installations, giving service members direct contact with future employers looking specifically for a military background.

Camp Pendleton service members had the opportunity to speak to various vendors during the fair that could help them find employment positions easier.
