MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. --  As a result of funding reductions, Camp Pendleton has been required to reduce spending by closing a few Marine Corps Community Services facilities by fiscal year 2013.

In order to meet this budget cut, leaders throughout the base had to make the difficult decision to close three community centers.

Closure of the three community centers, which are Abbey Reinke, San Onofre and Stuart Mesa, will not eliminate support to the three impacted areas.

Additionally, the contract services currently being offered in the community centers (dance, karate, gym classes, etc.) will be relocated to other facilities that are to be named at a later date. 

Ultimately, these decisions to close the community centers will allow the base to keep vital programs, such as Child & after school Care, Family programs and youth sports programs.

The Abby Reinke Center is expected to be repurposed to house an urgently needed pass and ID operation to serve the Marines, sailors, and families on that side of the base. Also a portion of that building will be able to be scheduled for training and events.
