CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. -- Thirteen Camp Pendleton-based commands competed in a volleyball tournament for points in the Commanding General’s Cup at the Camp Horno Fitness Center here Oct. 16.
Team Silver Bullets from Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton placed first; Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 39 took second, and a team from Marine Corps Tactical Systems Support Activity came in third.
The top unit with the most points at the end of the yearlong competition will claim the cup and a cash prize. Two runners-up will be awarded cash prizes.
The one-day event allowed for 15 points per match rather than the traditional 25, said Douglas E. Hall, a sports coordinator with Semper Fit Camp Pendleton. However, participation nearly doubled this year, and given the increased participation, Hall said Semper Fit “would like to have the full effect of a tournament" expanded into a two-day event.
“I feel events like these are very important," said Hall. "They get service members away from the stressful environment of work and build camaraderie and friendly competition with other commands among the base.”
