DEFY seeks leaders, trainees

28 Jan 2013 | Public Affairs Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton

Looking to make a difference in your community? The Drug Education For Youth program is seeking leaders to fill positions on base.

The Drug Education For Youth 2013 Train-the-Trainer event is scheduled to take place Feb. 20-21 at the Island Club Conference Center on Naval Air Station North Island, Coronado, Calif.

Petty Officer 1st Class Gomecindo Rodriguez, local program coordinator for DEFY, Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton said, “DEFY is all about creating positive experiences so that kids will choose healthy alternatives instead of substance abuse and gang involvement.”

Some of the jobs in need of filling are local program coordinator and assistant LPC.  These positions require a yearlong commitment to the program.

In addition to these positions being base collateral duties, they also provide volunteer hours for the service members.

The event applications can be obtained by emailing Gomecindo.Rodriguez@med.navy.mil.

All interested personnel need to fill out the application and return it by Jan 30. Applications require command approval prior to submission.
