CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. -- Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton hosted an Alcohol Awareness Fair in conjunction with Alcohol Awareness Month at the Cmdr. R. W. Emerine Memorial Conference Room April 29.
According to Petty Officer 1st Class Tamika Patanio, the hospital’s assistant Drug and Alcohol Program Advisor and assistant coordinator for the event, the purpose of the fair was to bring more identification of resources available for service members, their families and friends.
The fair had offered information on counseling services, deployment health, decreasing drinking, alcohol and prescription drug use and how to help family members.
“The Alcohol Awareness Fair helped service members and their families recognize the destructive impact that alcohol misuse can have and to bring awareness of the Navy’s policy of zero tolerance on alcohol abuse,” said Patanio.
The fair concluded with an
intoxiclock® presentation by Ms. Mindy Martini, from the MCCS Camp Pendleton Consolidated Substance Abuse Counseling Center.
intoxiclock® is a program used to demonstrate how a person’s intoxication level changes with increasing levels of alcohol consumption and the rate at which the body metabolizes alcohol given a person’s weight, gender and drinking rate.
During Alcohol Awareness Month, the hospital also sponsored a ‘Barracks Morale Night’ to build camaraderie and highlight alternatives to drinking and a command run for alcohol and sexual assault awareness.
