Colonel Edward (Ted) Greeley was born in Denver, Colorado. He graduated from Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland in 1993, was commissioned a Second
Lieutenant in 1995 via OCC 160, and was designated an Infantry Officer following completion of The Basic School and the Infantry Officer Course.
From 1996 to 1999, he was assigned to 1st Battalion, 7th Marines where he served as a Rifle Platoon Commander, the 81 mm Mortar Platoon Commander, the Assistant Operations Officer, and Rifle Company Commander.
From June 1999 to August 2002, Colonel Greeley was assigned to The Basic School where he served as a Staff Platoon Commander and as an instructor at the Infantry Officer Course. From August 2002 to June 2003, he attended the Marine Corps Expeditionary Warfare School and graduated as the Ground Combat Arms Honor Graduate.
From June 2003 to May 2006, he was assigned to 2d Battalion, 1st Marines where he served as the Assistant Operations Officer and Rifle Company Commander. During this time, he deployed twice to Iraq in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.
From June 2006 to June 2009, Colonel Greeley was assigned to the United States Naval Academy as an instructor in the Leadership, Ethics, and Law Department, and Marine Corps Summer Programs. In 2009, Colonel Greeley attended the Marine Corps Command and Staff College and graduated as a Distinguished Graduate with a Master of Arts in Military Studies.
Colonel Greeley was assigned to 2d Battalion, 5th Marines from July 2010 to July 2011, where he served as the Battalion Executive Officer and Maritime Raid Force Commander for BLT 2/5, 31st MEU. During this time, he participated in humanitarian relief operations in Japan in support of Operation TOMODACHI. He was subsequently assigned to I MEF as the Executive Officer, I MEF Headquarters Group from June of 2011 to June of 2012.
In June of 2012, Colonel Greeley rejoined the 1st Marine Division where he served as Commanding Officer, 3d Battalion, 7th Marines, Executive Officer, 7th Marine Regiment, and Commanding Officer, 3d Battalion, 1st Marines. In May of 2015, he deployed with the 15th MEU as Commanding Officer, BLT 3/1.
After deployment, Colonel Greeley was assigned to the G-3, 1st Marine Division and then attended the National War College in Washington, D.C. He graduated in June of 2017 with a Master of Science in National Security Strategy, and was assigned to the Joint Staff J5 Middle East Directorate as the Iraq/Syria Branch Chief and Iran Branch Chief.
Colonel Greeley is a graduate of the Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center’s Summer Mountain Leaders Course and Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron One’s Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course.
