More than 6,000 racers participated in the opening day of the 2015 World Famous Mud Run here, June 6. The Mud Run, open to authorized military and civilian participants, includes a 10k and a 5k option with hills, tire obstacles, river crossings, two 5-foot walls with mud on both sides, a tunnel crawl, a cargo net climb and a final 30-foot long mud pit. Camp Pendleton is implementing a new washing system during the Mud Run, June 6, 7, 13 and 14, to meet water conservation objectives for Marine Corps Installations - West. During the Mud Run, 80 percent of water is used at the finish line to wash participants down. Camp Pendleton’s Base Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team and local communities took third place during the bon suit relay race as part of the third annual EOD Warrior 5K run in San Diego, May 25. The 101 Critical Days of Summer safety campaign's focus is to continuously raise the awareness and understanding on how to prevent injuries and accidents in order to reduce the amount of casualties this summer.The campaign began Memorial Day weekend and runs through Labor Day.
