For the past 75 years, the name "Pendleton" has become legendary because of the nation's largest military base hugging the northern limits of Oceanside. Truth be known, most people haven't a clue as to who "Pendleton" was. He was Marine Maj. Gen. Joseph H. Pendleton, - a man who was born before the Civil War, lived through World War I and died as World War II raged.

In recognition of the work put in by the Facilities Management Department, Killea; Sgt. Maj. Julio Meza, Sgt. Maj., Marine Corps Installations – West, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton; Col. Gary Johnston, Chief of Staff, and Capt. William Whitmire, Assistant Chief of Staff, visited FMD to thank the workers personally Feb 1, for their hard work during recovery efforts from recent storms.

According to the MARADMIN, Military Saves Week 2017 is a total force command program that encourages Marines and their families to focus on financial readiness, debt reduction and increasing savings in small amounts to achieve long-term financial goals.
